George Devens and Susan Devens
with a tribute to
Jule Styne

In real life, George Devens does just what he did for us at our June meeting: spreads the good word about The Great American Songbook.  George has worked with the best in the business, and now is letting the world know about our music, and those who wrote it.  He has created a series of programs that he presents to universities and other cultural centers.  George did a brilliant job of presenting his version of The Jule Styne Story.  No matter how much we know about Styne, when you have an overview of his life's work, it is amazing how versatile he was, how far his career took him...from Hollywood to Broadway and many stops in between.  Because of our annual raffle, George's time was curtailed and he had to improvise cuts in his regular Jule Styne presentation.  However, he did a fantastically entertaining job of hitting the highlights of a fabulous career.  When you hear these songs, one after the other, one can't help but marvel at this man's genius.
