Dr. Alan Silverstein presents

Daryl Sherman and John Wallowitch

A program of Cole Porter and George Gershwin, and how their neurological symptoms relate to their music.

Who's who at our October meeting..(clockwise, starting upper left) Peter Howard sings Steve Ross' "Regrets"; Dr. Alan Silverstein narrates the program; John Wallowitch plays Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue"; Daryl Sherman and John; Daryl and John; and Daryl, building Gershwin's "Stairway to Paradise", before hurrying to the Waldorf and THE (or, now, her) Cole Porter piano.

Again, our membership had a terrific opening meeting.  Steve Ross, unable to attend, sent his apology, via veteran pinch-hitter and full time star performer, Peter Howard, who sang Porter's "Miss Otis Regrets", establishing the fact that Steve was genuinely sorry he could not attend.  Those who did attend were treated to an extremely interesting analysis by Dr. Silverstein concerning the neurological problems that afflicted the two composers.  It was also very clear that there was nothing wrong whatsoever with the performances of our two headliners, Daryl and John.  Their duets were brilliant, as were their solo numbers.  John also displayed his versatility by playing Gershwin's most famous composition, "Rhapsody in Blue," as well as the Broadway and Hollywood songs.  Daryl had to get back to her real job of playing the Cole Porter piano at the Waldorf.  Who could ask for anything more?
